Tankah

Tankah is a different experience than most cenotes as is Angelita. Tankah is a very open cenote with an unusual mix of fauna. Swimming under overhangs with mangrove roots hanging down from the overhead ledge is rather unique in the cenote world. there is one small swim thru cavern which has no formations, but what makes Tankah unique is that it has a direct tunnel leading into the ocean. This is a long and crumbly cave and accessible only to experienced cave divers. However, what it does for the novice is gives the cenote two levels of fauna as well as two levels of water - there is a distinct fresh water layer on top and an equally distinct saltwater layer on the bottom. There are the usual small fresh water fish as well as the occassional Manatee that visit the fresh water layer, and then there are barracuda, tarpon, small sharks, and even crabs living in the salt below.
