In the clear water outside there are several types of small fish

Ponderosa Cenote or Jardin del Eden is the largest surface area cenote I visited. It’s a great place to swim and local people come on weekends to enjoy the crystalline clear water and jump off the overhang into the water. From these shots it’s easy to see the beautiful clarity of the water. Before descending the steps down to the platform in the water, our guide, Ricardo, briefs everyone on what to expect from the dive.

These big finned fish seem to fight constantly over territory

Ponderosa has some quite large rooms which seems to be the norm rather than the exception. When you enter downward into the first room, you swim down under a ledge and come up in anther open room somewhat like Dos Ojos. Here you can look up into another exit in the jungle.

Inside we found another native in the form of a rather large eel almost three feet long.

Another thing common to many caverns are the fossil remains embedded in the rocks.

In the lower parts of the cavern is a very heavy and distinct halocline. Here you can see a diver as he diappears following two other divers into the halocline from below. Obviously, this plays havoc with any thoughts of photography. Most haloclines in my experience are only inches to a foot thick, but this one ranged up to six feet thick.
