Buoy #1 is just as the name implies. It is the buoy at the outside end of the main channel. At first sight it looks to be rather boring but that’s not the case. Once you move from the anchor chain and sand bottom, there is a myriad of small life close by. Further out and there is a bank which falls down to 60 - 70 feet and a lot of growth on it. If you’re into macro photography you won’t want to miss this dive.

Salt River is one of the often touted dives of St. Croix. Formed during the last ice age when sea levels were as much as 400 feet lower, it starts at an old now sunken waterfall and is the riverbed of that stream. I can only say that I was disappointed after all the hype. Nice coral in spots but fundamentally boring. If I were to say pass on a dive it would be this one. Actually it’s two dives since you do separate dives for the two walls of the canyon. If you want to do this I recommend the west wall as being a little more colorful.
