Half Moon Cay is south of the “Great Blue Hole” on Lighthouse Reef and is used as a lunch layover and dive interval after a visit to the ‘Hole’. It’s a marine avian nsanctuary for nesting Boobies (the bird kind) and has a large population of same as well as a load of iguanas. There’s a nature trail on the west end leading into the nesting with an elevated pl;atform to observe the birds. At the east end is the atoll’s namesake, an old lighthouse to visit. Half Moon is one of the premiere dive areas of Belize with a deep trench cutting into a full healthy reef which lends itself to all the reef life asa well as passing sharks, eagle rays, and even the occasional manta.Half Moon Cay wall would be worth the trip out by itself and is icing on the cake after your Blue Hole dive.
