Sharks

Up close and personal- that’s how the sharks get in Freeport. If you want a chance to touch these magnificant animals, then Freeport is a great place in a controlled and ‘safe’ environment. That word - safe - is, of course, a relative term here. But you do get close

As your shark ‘experience’ begins, you descend to the bottom as a group, and are lined up where everyone has a ‘front row’ view of the feeding process. While you are getting settled, the sharks are starting to cruise in from where they’ve been hanging just out of sight. They seem to be sizing up this new group of divers - maybe just grocery shopping - but really just watching to see who’s the one with the fish. Once the feeding begins, you don’t want to step outta line since your hand just might be mistaken for a tasty morsel.


	Now the fun begins as one of the UNEXSO divers - the one dressed in chain mail - swims into the arena in front of you carrying a black bucket filled with fish. It’s immediately obvious the sharks know the drill as they follow along like puppies waiting for the feeding to start. Sometimes the crowding gets so thick it is difficult to distinguish the diver in the midst of the throng of sharks.

As noted above, the feeder wears chain mail here at UNEXSO’s shark experience, which is not always the case at these type demonstrations. In part this is due to the truly intimate contact which the diver makes with the animals. As you can see from the photos, the sharks are all over the feeder while the food is out, and even a casual brush by a shark’s sandpaper hide can remove a painful amount of skin - not to mention a finger along with a bite of fish! One unique demonstration you will see with UNEXSO which wouldn’t be possible without the suit is how to put a shark to sleep by holding it upside down. Assuming a compliant shark, the feeder will be able to carry the sleeping shark down the row of watchers and allow them to touch the shark’s side. This is probably the closest you will get to a shark, and probably as close as you will want to get!
