Rock Pile is fairly flat and open with clumps of rocks and soft corals. Plenty of anemones, gorgonia, and cleaner shrimp are lurking in the rocky crevices and basket stars are all balled up in the gorgonian branches.
There are many varied shapes and colors of anemones which seem to pop out of every other crack. Most of the anemones hide one or more cleaner shrimp as well.
There are an inordinate number of basket stars at this location all balled up and hiding from the daylight like little vampires only to fold out at night like big fishing nets to feed. I’ve always been surprised at the distances basket stars travel each night to feed, then returning to their ‘home’ branch to hibernate through the day.
